Textron: Eighth Special Olympics Airlift by Textron Aviation Takes Flight Today
ORLANDO, Fla. (June 4, 2022) – This morning, more than 120 Textron Aviation aircraft will take off from 28 states across the United States and land at Orlando Executive Airport with Special Olympics athletes and coaches on board. Participating aircraft – called “Doves” by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) when flying in the airlift – today have priority in the national airspace system and will land and take off every three minutes for about eight hours in Orlando as they bring teams to compete in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
This is the eighth time Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, has hosted the Special Olympics Airlift. Since the first airlift in 1987, more than 10,000 athletes and coaches from across the United States have flown to Special Olympics World Games and USA Games.
Today is the culmination of more than a year of planning by hundreds of people at Textron Aviation, Special Olympics, the FAA, Orlando Executive Airport, Atlantic Aviation and many of the event’s suppliers and sponsors. More than 120 Cessna Citation, Beechjet and Hawker business jets and owners of Beechcraft King Air turboprop aircraft donated the use of their aircraft, pilots and fuel to transport more than 800 passengers to the Games.
