New terminal building, MRO, Taxiway ready before December 2022-Udom Emmanuel – The Sun Nigeria

The new terminal building; The Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Taxi Way facility, being constructed at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, would all be inaugurated this year.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel disclosed this Friday while inspecting the projects at the airport on Friday.

The governor who expressed satisfaction with the level of work being executed by the contractors said the MRO, which is 84% ​​complete, has the capacity to transport two 747 series aircraft, eight A-220 300 series and all CRJs, adding that the MRO, when fully operational, will promote economic growth in the state.

“Honestly from what I’ve seen here the contractors have exceeded my expectations, they’re quite ahead of schedule. You can tell it’s 84% ​​complete and the materials on the ground can guarantee the Delivery Date.

“The MRO can take two series of 747 aircraft, eight of our A-220 300 series and all of the CRJs at the moment all the installations are almost complete and you can imagine that we are the new wife of all the companies of aircraft maintenance companies around the world and we have received offers from aircraft maintenance companies, you can imagine the hard currency this will bring to the state,” he said.

During the terminal project, Governor Emmanuel said that the structural part of the project is almost complete and the terminal will be the smartest in Africa, adding that Ibom Air will start its regional flight upon the completion of the project.

He pointed out that the project, which is a total approach to aviation development, will attract other foreign airlines and assured that there will be ease of business transaction in the state.

Governor Emmanuel hinted that as part of the government’s aviation development efforts, 100 young people will be trained in aeronautical engineering and other specialized fields, starting with the first group of 40 young people. According to him, the training will be provided by experts from Airbus Company.

“I want to assure the people of Akwa Ibom, this is what we call a total approach to aviation development and we want to take everything together, airline, terminal, MRO, runway and other aviation facilities.

“I hope you know that Airbus experts are on the ground, to train young people in piloting and aeronautical engineering, they are on the first phase here in Nigeria, while the second and third phase are going on. will do in Airbus facilities in France.

We will train more, once we have completed the first batch of 40. My goal is to train 100 young people before leaving my post”. He hinted

The Governor, who said he was satisfied with the 3.6 km Taxiway, appreciated the quality and level of the project executed by GITTO Construzioni Generali Nigeria.

The project manager of Camosa Nigeria Limited in charge of the MRO project, while driving the governor around the project, said that the project has been running for 13 months and is currently 84% complete.

At the international terminal, Project Manager, VKS Construction Limited, Mr. Ziya Sungur, mentioned that the main structural works have been completed, adding that only furnishings remain, with necessary equipment for smart operations.

Similarly, Gitto’s project manager, Chief Ghanem Rasbeih, said the 1.5 by 3.6 km of the new taxiway is 100% complete, while the rest is 80% complete.

Project officials assured the Governor that all three projects will be completed before the end of 2022.
