I’m a flight attendant – here’s why these boozy flights in Ibiza are putting lives at risk

Alcohol and passengers are a strange mix for us flight attendants.

I’m glad people have a good moment – after all, they paid the hard-earned money for their tickets, it’s also their theft, it’s not just up to us to get them from A to B and tell them what to do.

However, sometimes it can be a bit too much and it is difficult for some passengers to understand why we have to draw a line.

I’ve worked as a flight attendant at a major airline for ten years, and in a weekly blog for Sun Online Travel, I reveal little-known secrets about the job.

This week I’ll be talking about why those boozy party flights you see to places like Ibiza aren’t funny at all and could easily get seriously serious.

I really felt for the cabin crew of a flight last month, when a group of TikTok influencers and creators were flown by Spotify to the Balearic Islands for a bunch of parties.

Most of the passengers on board couldn’t wait to land and one started strangling Jack Daniels while another jumped up and down on small seats.

Others started swinging chair heads in the aisle and some were jumping up and down during the flight – it was total chaos.

While the crew did their best to carry on as usual, flight attendants play a critical safety role and, from a safety perspective, this aircraft was very dangerous.

One of the main problems that I could see right away was that the communication between the cabin crew would certainly be affected.

One of the flight attendants was walking down the aisle, but there could be another crew member in the back perhaps trying to get his attention.

Because there is so much going on, visibility will be reduced and this could easily lead to other problems. Communication is vital between crew members and we need to be able to see each other all the time.

If we can’t, something terrible might happen and we won’t be able to act in time.

It may not even necessarily have anything to do with celebration That is. Drinking and dancing might be the perfect distraction for someone else with much more sinister ideas to achieve something much worse.

It’s the worst case scenario, but you absolutely never know what’s going to happen.

The party could also result in damage to the aircraft as they banged on seats, banged on doors, and banged on windows.

You don’t know how people react with alcohol in this situation.

People are of course allowed to have a little fun – some say it’s always five o’clock in the air – but it’s a very dangerous operation that we’re running and it’s bad when people just don’t understand not that.

You could see that people were here, there and everywhere. They weren’t in assigned seatswhich is not really sure.

If we lose pressure in the cabin, what we’re told to do is literally grab a mask and sit down, whereas if you’re drunk and not where you’re supposed to be, returning to your seat could cause chaos.

Especially if everyone is standing, imagine everyone rushing down the aisle at the same time.

As the oxygen unfolds, there is also the possibility of people entering panic modewhich makes things even worse.

When these situations arise and things start to become a problem, that’s when you have to start saying that it won’t happen again.

We will ask the captain to put the seat belt sign because this is an official airline rule that you as passengers must follow.

You agree to the terms and conditions when you book your seat on the plane. If you haven’t adhere to that then, of course, other penalties could also be introduced.

This can range from a quiet word at the end of the flight from the captain to a ban from the airline, which could leave you stranded at your destination. But it’s definitely not worth the risk.

What I’d like to point out about this story, however, is that it’s not just economy class youths behaving like this – they’re far from the only offenders.

We had a lot of well-to-do old people in the business and even the first classes get too excited with the champagne.

It’s one of the things that really surprised me when I started working as a flight attendant, how many people think of flying as a night out.

And many people just don’t know their own limits. It really is quite terrifying at times, not just when things get loud.

There are also many times when people had a few to calm their nerves about the trip and ended up fainting.

If there were an emergency on board the aircraft, these people could find themselves in serious trouble.

So if you go have a drink on your next flight, think about how this might affect you, as we’ll have to take care of this if you don’t – and we can’t take care of everyone in an emergency, it’s just not possible.
