Huntsville International Airport Getting Ready for Vacation Travel

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Huntsville International Airport is preparing to welcome more travelers this holiday season.

Mary Swanstrom, public relations manager at the airport, said more and more people have returned to traveling for leisure. During the pandemic, they mostly saw business travelers.

According to Swanstrom, even though the airport is expecting more travelers, it is up to the airline how many flights are added.

She said the airport accounts for about 82% of her travel count before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As you see in the whole industry there are personnel issues, due to different things, so we anticipate that we will have enough flights to be able to get people where they need to go.” , Swanstrom said.

Huntsville International Airport is also looking to fill a variety of positions as the end of the year approaches. A list of these jobs can be found here.

Swanstrom has provided a list of travel tips for people preparing to travel by plane:

  • Arrive early and stress less
  • Wearing a mask (compulsory in the terminal and on the plane)
  • Pack unwrapped gifts (even in checked baggage)
  • Put carry-on baggage in a clear plastic bag
  • Firearms must be unloaded, locked in a hard case, placed in a checked bag and declared to the airline upon check-in.
  • Behaving (there are heavy fines and possibly a lifetime ban from some airlines for unruly behavior)
  • No alcohol to take away. Alcoholic beverages must be served by an airline crew member once on board.
  • Apply for Global Entry – includes TSA pre-check and can be obtained at HSV.
  • The STAR identification deadline has been extended until May 3, 2023.
