Emergency responders were called to the site of a hang-gliding crash just after 10 a.m. Friday. Mifflin County Coroner Daniel Lynch pronounced Samuel R. Peachey of Belleville dead at the scene.

ALLENSVILLE — A motorized hang-glider accident claimed the life of a Belleville man Friday morning in Menno Township.

Emergency responders were called to 100 Plane View Drive shortly after 10 a.m., where Samuel R. Peachey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mifflin County coroner.

The cause of death was blunt trauma, according to a coroner’s office report.

The Federal Aviation Administration released the following information about the accident:

“An unregistered ultralight vehicle crashed in a field near Belleville, Pennsylvania at approximately 10 a.m. local time today. The vehicle does not meet the criteria to be defined as an aircraft. In these cases , the FAA is referring the investigation to local law enforcement.

A powered hang glider, sometimes called an ultralight, is a hang glider frame with a motor and a propeller.

Emergency responders were Allensville Fire Company, Belleville Rescue, Big Valley EMS, FAME EMS and the Pennsylvania State Police.
