Austin Airport expects busiest day ever after Formula 1 weekend
AUSTIN (KXAN) – If you have to catch a plane early next week, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is warning you that you might encounter long lines and crowded flights. The number of people flying from Austin on Sunday and Monday could break records as hundreds of thousands leave after Formula 1 weekend.
According to Circuit of the Americas, the U.S. Formula 1 Grand Prix race is sold out. Over the weekend, just under 400,000 people will be at COTA, many from out of town, COTA says.
The bottlenecks at the airport could be severe enough that it recommends people show up at least three hours before their flight. This recommendation is even longer if you need to check in your luggage or return a rental car.
In a tweet, the airport asked passengers to do their part to make the airport safe “both by wearing a mask and packing extra patience for the airport, the airline and other tenant employees.” .
The lower curb and the upper curb can be used for disembarking. The first TSA checkpoints and plane ticket counters will open at 3 a.m., depending on the airport.
You can check the security wait times through the airport website.
