Annual Perkins Field Airport Day on October 8

The Perkins Field Flying Club is hosting its second Airport Open Day on Saturday, October 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Perkins Field Airport in Overton. There will be plenty for community members to do. Perhaps most exciting is a free flight over Moapa Valley for the kids.

“Similar to last year’s event, we have partnered with Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1300 in Henderson, to offer young people ages 8-17 a free flight in Young Eagles aircraft,” said Tim DeBerardinis. , member of the founding club.

Additionally, there will be a static display of model rockets by members of the Tripoli Vegas – Rocketry Club. They will be there with several rockets of different sizes; including rocket engines.

Glider pilot Dave, a member of the Las Vegas Valley Soaring Association, will be in attendance. Dave with his ASG 29, 18 meter glider on display. Come visit Dave to find out what it takes to soar from Nephi, Utah to Jean, Nevada by simply gliding along mountain peaks and under cloud layers.

Taz returns this year; retired USAF combat pilot. He showed off his Aerostar YAK-52 at last year’s open house. I can’t wait to see what he will take off this year!

Joining again: Air Methods medical helicopter Mercy Air; LVMPD Air Support Unit Helicopter; Officers of the resident section of the LVMPD NE; Nevada Highway Patrol; and Moapa Valley Fire District (MVFD).
Last year, volunteer pilots flew 150 children aboard 16 planes; 30 children more than those pre-registered. The event is on track to meet or exceed that number this year based on current pre-registration numbers, DeBerardinis said.

Young Eagles pre-registration registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
“We will do our best to accommodate drop-in registrations on the day of the open house, but pre-registration is highly recommended,” DeBerardinis said.

Flights are limited to children between the ages of 8 and 17. To pre-register go to: youngeaglesday.org or scan the QR code
